The band has been updating their YouTube page daily. In the most recent updates you can see them scrambling to fix a Moog Source, Sara buying very important tour socks, and this newest one with Dan’s wife Zoe. It’s the first of a three part feature on Dan. Check them all out on their YouTube page.

The band stopped in Minneapolis for a radio appearance on public radio. You can listen to the entire session here. They played 3 songs of the EP: “Last Romantic Day”, “Life Without a Brain”, and “Sweetness and Tenderness”.

On Friday August 17th, The Rentals headed into the WOXY Studio to record a Lounge Act Session. This session is posted on WOXY’s website and is ready for download here.

The Rentals played their first of four shows at Spaceland last week. Kyle took a little video from the side of the stage and posted it on The Rentals Youtube Channel. It’s just a small taste of how the whole show went down. Notice the smoke machine and crazy light show.

The Rentals will be playing every Saturday in July at Spaceland in Silverlake, CA. The Last Little Life EP, which doesn’t hit stores until August 14, will be available for purchase at these shows.

The Rentals have a ton of tour dates over the summer and starting with the first show tonight, June 26 is Bakersfield, California, the band will keep a daily video blog available through cell phone social networking service ShoZu, and through their YouTube channel.

The Rentals began their association with Boompa in 2005 with the release of the Matt Sharp solo album Matt Sharp. Whilst in Vancouver, working on a re-mix for friends Tegan and Sara, Matt played some demos that he was working on for his next solo record. Everyone assembled agreed that the songs kind of sounded like The Rentals, and several months later, the band was reformed.

The Last Little Life EP stays true to the band’s trademark infectious and catchy pop songs while also branching out into new musical territory. The three new songs “Last Romantic Day”, “Little Bit Of You In Everything”, “Life Without A Brain” were mixed by producer/ engineer Joe Chiccarelli (The Shins, White Stripes). The four song cycle concludes with a new arrangement of their classic “Sweetness And Tenderness” (mixed by Rich Hauser).

Gearing up for their August 14th North American release, The Rentals will kick things off at the end of June with several intimate warm-up dates on the West Coast previewing the new songs, culminating in a residency at LA’s famed Spaceland, every Saturday in July.

Look for The Rentals on tour throughout the summer of 2007.

Matt Sharp (co-founder and former member of Weezer) is the main thread that runs through the history of The Rentals. It is his leadership and vision that provides the focus through which the collective voices of The Rentals can be heard. The band’s debut album Return of the Rentals (1995) brilliantly incorporated Moog synthesizers, boy/girl harmonies and soaring violins all rolled into sweet and simple pop songs. Their single “Friends Of P” (number 6 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Chart) broke through The Billboard Hot 100 and into MTV’s Buzz Bin reviving elements of new wave and bringing the analog synthesizer back to the forefront of pop music. The band supported Return of the Rentals by going on the road with such well know acts as Garbage, Blur, Alanis Morrisette and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The band’s sophomore effort Seven More Minutes was an open love letter to Barcelona and the European music scene. The critically heralded follow up featured a whirlwind of collaborators including members of Blur, Elastica, Lush, Weezer and Ash.

In 1999, at the height of his creative output, Sharp mysteriously left the music world. Five years later, he emerged in the small country town of Leipers Fork, TN—it was here where Sharp retreated to work in the kind of studio isolation unheard of in popular music. During the course of the recording, Sharp met Canadian folk-rock duo Tegan and Sara and lent his Moog mastery to their hit album So Jealous. In 2004, Vancouver independent label Boompa Records released Sharp’s self-titled solo debut—a lo-fi, languid album set deep in the terrain of bleached out Americana.

2006 sees Sharp readying his return to the new wave pop/rock spotlight with new lineup of The Rentals in tow: original founding member Rachel Haden (that dog!), new members Sara Radle (vocals/multi-instrumentalist), Ben Pringle (synth master), Lauren Chipman (viola/vocals) and Dan Joeright (drums).

Their first show in over a decade, the return of The Rentals recently kicked off with an incredible sold-out, double-encore performance at Los Angeles’ Henry Fonda Theatre, quickly followed by two nights at the Yokohama Arena in Japan before they hit Vancouver. The band hopes to hit the studio later this year to record a new full-length album for release in 2007.
