Christopher Smith’s Beckon Call, “Gently Gently” single and video

Boompa Records is proud to release The Beckon Call, the debut full-length from Vancouver-based Christopher Smith. Due out May 11, the record harks back to times long past—days both you and Smith alike are too young to have even known.

Having started out as a visual artist, Smith’s pieces were exhibited in galleries throughout Vancouver before he had even finished high school. When work began on his first complete album, Christopher retreated to his studio of choice—a bedroom. Modest in execution, the…

The Salteens return with Moths

The Salteens started Boompa Records to put out their sophomore album, Let Go Of Your Bad Days. That was 7 years ago, and since then Boompa has released a lot of other albums while the Vancouver-based band has remained largely silent. We are proud to announce the end of that irony. On May 11 Boompa Records will release the Moths EP in Canada, Japan and the USA, in advance of the long awaited Salteens LP, Grey Eyes, due out late this summer.

Christopher Smith’s “Christmas Day” - video and free download

Last week Woodpigeon released a holiday song online (get “xoxmas” here). Not to be outdone, label-mate Christopher Smith has not only recorded a Christmas song himself, but has also made a video for it.

While this one-upmanship may suggest that Smith and Woodpigeon’s Mark Hamilton have a competitive relationship (which may well be the case) the pair of them actually get along quite well and are collaborating on not 1 but 2 EPs to be released in 2010. Christopher Smith + The Beckon…

Christopher Smith’s Keepsake

You probably know a Christopher Smith.  There are a lot of them.  There are even a lot of musicians with the name, so there’s bound to be a lot of confusion in the coming months with links to the wrong Smith site.  The Christopher Smith I’m writing you about isn’t much known outside of Vancouver.  While he can be considered a newcomer, he’s been playing galleries and bedrooms around East Vancouver for years and those who do know Christopher (this…

Thanks to Spinner for hosting the latest blog tour video! Lisa Lobsinger and Patrick Walls perform “The Leisure Lost” off Reverie’s debut LP, which Rawkblog recently named one of the top albums of the year, calling it “a flawless summer soundtrack.”
